Well, in many places the new riding season is starting
again. In other places, people are still digging out of
snow piles.
For
many, as the new season begins for 2007, they may be
dealing with the loss of a loved one due to an accident
involving their motorcycle or still reeling from an
accident themselves.
There are many reasons why you may be seeking comfort
today, but you do not have to justify them. You need
comfort, and a reasonable voice and peaceful place to be
so that the thoughts and feelings that revolve in your
mind about what has happened to you or to someone you
know can begin to slow, to stop…even for a moment.
So
often we are caught between thinking we don’t want to be
hurting and we don’t want or don’t know how, to be happy
either.
This
perpetuates the constant activity in our minds.
But,
to grasp the reality that…
“Rather
than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's
kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all
times you
have something good and something bad in your life.
No matter how good things are in your life, there is
always
something bad that needs to be worked on.
And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is
always
something good you can thank God for.” –Rick Warren,
The Purpose Driven Life
….to
grasp this, is to begin to find, AND EMBRACE, comfort,
peace, healing. It is the way out of the turmoil in
heart and head.
Instead of constantly battling against the strenuous
climb up the mountain of pain….see it as a rail….a ‘no
effort needed’ rail of bad stuff happening…..that runs
parallel to the ‘no effort’ rail of good stuff. Your
leap from one rail to the other can happen at any time
by choosing what to dwell on at any given moment. When
something extremely painful happens to a person, it may
take a couple of attempts at leaping from the bad rail
to the good rail before landing on and staying on that
rail for a bit of time. But even if it is just for a few
moments….a few moments of recognizing the good that is
still present while your pain is dominant…is a moment of
healing; a moment that brings you closer to the next
leap attempt and perhaps the ability to stay on the
‘good’ rail a bit longer than the last attempt.
Accepting that good and bad experiences are not mutually
exclusive, that they can exist like parallel rails in
our life, can help to ease the agony one suffers.
Putting things into words can often help to bring events
in our lives back into perspective which can help to
balance our thoughts, feelings and emotions about them.
Taking a moment in the pain and/or confusion to dwell on
a good thing can be a start. Remembering those who have
tried to help in any way; tried to comfort, encourage,
protect….these are positive steps towards leaping onto
the ‘rail of good/positive’ ….to take a healing break
from thinking about or experiencing the ‘rail of
bad/negative’. To connect with those feelings of
gratitude, especially for those people who have
supported or helped, can be a great source of healing.
